Romans 10:9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
What does Romans 10:9 mean?
Paul wrote to the church in Rome about how both Jews and Gentiles are saved. He says the word of faith is near, “in thy mouth, and in thy heart” (verse 8). This verse joins the two: confessing Jesus as Lord out loud and believing that God raised him from the dead. Verse 13 adds that this is open to whoever calls on the Lord.
How can I apply Romans 10:9 today?
Faith here is both inner and spoken. If you believe, try saying it out loud: tell someone this week, in your own words, that Jesus is your Lord and why. If you are not sure yet, verse 13 is an open invitation: “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”.
In context · Romans 10:7–11
Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
