What does John 14:6 mean?

Jesus said this at the Last Supper, the night before his death. He had just told his disciples he was going to prepare a place for them, and Thomas asked, “how can we know the way?” Jesus answers that he himself is the way to the Father: not one guide among many, but the way, the truth and the life.

How can I apply John 14:6 today?

Thomas felt lost and said so plainly, and Jesus met his honest question with himself. When you are unsure which way to go, bring your confusion to Jesus as directly as Thomas did. Start from verse 1, “Let not your heart be troubled”, and trust the person, not a plan.

In context · John 14:4–8

And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
