What does Acts 1:8 mean?

Luke wrote Acts as the sequel to his Gospel, addressed to Theophilus. Here the risen Jesus speaks to his disciples just before he is taken up into heaven. They asked when the kingdom would be restored; he said that was not theirs to know, but they would receive power from the Holy Spirit to be his witnesses, from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth.

How can I apply Acts 1:8 today?

Notice the order: power comes first, then witness. You don't have to manufacture courage to talk about your faith. Start in your own “Jerusalem”, your home, workplace or street, and pray for the Spirit's help to speak honestly about what Jesus means to you when the moment comes.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
